Te Rau Whakawhānui- Series IV Emergency Department This e-learning site has been developed by Te Rau Matatini to encourage and support emergency departments (ED), Māori health units and mental health services to strengthen their capability to respond to, recognise and treat those with urgent mental health need in a more timely and effective manner. The site promotes the development of an emergency mental health environment to deliver effective clinical and cultural health services for tangata whai ora and whānau through the implementation of collaborative emergency health guidelines. Emergency mental health service delivery needs to be shared and should not sit with emergency departments alone. This necessitates a collaborative approach that encourages an environment of partnership which places the health and well being of service users and their whānau at the centre and values each organisation's role in achieving continuity of care.(McClintock & Ihimaera, 2007). Currently this site is open to those emergency department workers enrolled in the Te Rau Whakawhānui pilot.
